Home Gardening on the Balcony

So I’ve been gardening.. well sort of ”gardening” I think you could say, on the balcony.

I’ve been growing Sesame Seeds so that I can eat the leaves, and a Peppermint herb. But lately I wanted to try some lettuce and chives.

So I went to FairPrice today and bought a big plastic storage container and more soil for my little garden.

I had bought these long containers at Daiso a while ago but didn’t have any soil to put into them so with the soil that I bought today, I moved my lettuce over to one of them and planted some chives in the other.

With the Sesame plant, I moved them over into the big storage container that I bought for 2.90 SGD at FairPrice.

And this is how I did it.

First I flipped the container over and with a metal chopstick, I poked holes into the bottom. I had to use a lighter and heat up the chopstick to poke the holes.

Like this.

This was so that the water could get out and run, instead of just being there all the time and making the foundation wet and soggy.

And now, it looks like this!

The pot on the far left is cherry tomatoes, then lettuce, then chives and the biggest storage container is sesame leaves.

The storage container actually has wheels on the bottom so it’s really easy to move it when it’s raining too much or if the plant is getting too much heat.
